Etymology

Always derived from ON, cp. OIcel munnr 'mouth' with assimilation of an original fricative < PGmc *munþaz 'mouth', cp. Go munþs, OFris mund, mond, OS mūth, OHG mund and OE mūð 'mouth, opening, door, gate'.
