Etymology

cp. OIcel gǫrr (and cp. VAN KAruR on the Rök stone), neut. gǫr-t (< PGmc *garwa-; cp. OE gearu ‘ready’, OS garu, OHG garo), which functioned as the pp. of gera, gør(v)a, and from which a verbal stem in /a/ could have been extrapolated (see further Dance).
