Etymology

Always derived from ON, cp. OIcel logi 'flame' < PGmc *lugōn (cp. OFris loga 'flame' and MHG lohe 'flame' (< *luxōn)). This root is usually related to the numerous Gmc formations on the IE root *leuk- 'to shine'.
